Summary of Textile and Garments Sector in Bangladesh

Textile is a fundamental need for human. To sustain our textile industry in the competitive world market we need skilled textile engineer. Bangladesh earn lion share of our export earnings from textile sector. Textile industry of Bangladesh is more than 500 years old. There is a large job market for textile engineer in Bangladesh & global. At present there are 425 spinning mills, 796 Fabric manufacturing mills, 240 dyeing, printing & finishing mills & more than 5500 garments industry in our country. At least 45 lacks peoples are working in this sector. According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), total 84.21% foreign currency comes from RMG sector in the 2018-19 fiscal years. This sector contributes 13% GDP in 2018-19 fiscal years in our country.

Course Details

Diploma in Textile Engineering is 4 year long program and it consisting of 8 semesters (each semester is 6 month). Two exam such as in-course and final exam held per semester conducted under the supervision of Bangladesh technical Education Board (BTEB).

Job placement sector

Textile engineer having scope to doing smart job in the following sector:

• Textile & Garments factory: Production, Merchandising, IE, Planning, R&D, Washing etc.
• Govt. /Others like: BJMC, BJRI, EPB, BGMEA, BKMEA, EPZ, BTEB, BSTI, BTMC, etc.
• Govt. Job (Special): Instructor (Technical), Instructor (Vocational), PSC (Non Cadre) etc.
• Special Job: Marketing-Machineries, Dyes/Chemicals, Accessories/Trimming and Testing-SGS, Intertek, ITS, Bureau Verities etc.

Textile department at ISTT

Institute of science trade & Technology (ISTT) established in 1998 to produce skilled manpower & remove unemployment problem. Institute of science trade & Technology (ISTT) is affiliated institute under Bangladesh Technical Education Board. This institute provided 4 years Diploma in Textile Engineering degree since 2003-04 sessions. Our students achieved outstanding results in Technical board. Our passes out students are playing important role & position in different textile & garments industry in Bangladesh & abroad.

Academic Session

The admission procedure starts after the SSC results. There is mainly one session in a year. Students have to follow the admission announcement which is given by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) authority. Usually the admission procedure starts after May depending on the SSC result.

• Admission Eligibility
• Minimum SSC/ Equivalent Passed.
• Minimum GPA 2.0 & 40% marks on General Math
• No restriction for the age and the SSC passing year

Opportunity of Higher Education

After completing a Diploma in Textile Engineering, they are having scope to complete their B.Sc. & M.Sc. in Textile Engineering from DUET, BTEC & BUTEX, and many private universities in Bangladesh. Students also get their B.Sc. , M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree from abroad.
